The nearest Scout Group is at Christ Church Darley. There are three sections to the Group, covering an age range from six to thirteen years old and, whilst Scout meetings are held in the Church Hall, this is an Open Sponsored Group and everyone is welcome, no matter what denomination they are.
In the words of the old Scout Law: "A Scout is a friend to all and a brother to every other Scout, no matter what country, class or creed the other may belong."
Details of the various sections are as follows:
THE BEAVER COLONY
This section is open to boys aged between six and eight years. The motto of this section is "Fun and Friends" - and that is exactly what the meetings are all about - games, crafts and activities galore!! There is usually a waiting list for this section so it pays to put your son's name down if you are interested.
The colony meets on a Friday evening from 6.00 to 7.00pm. Please note that the Beaver Colony meets in Birstwith Church Hall, and not in Darley.
For further details, please contact the Beaver Leader:
Mr L.A. Eastland, 8 Birstwith Grange, Birstwith, Harrogate. Tel. (01423) 771391.
THE CUB PACK
This is the oldest section of the Christ Church Darley Group, having started on Monday 30th April 1979. It caters for boys aged between eight and eleven. The badgework programme is very varied combining adventure with "learning for living". It is structured into four awards, each taking between six and nine months to complete. Boys are also encouraged to work for Activity Badges in their own specialist subjects. There is even a special Challenge Badge for the more adventurous boys.
For further details, please contact the Cub Scout Leader:
Mrs Erica Spencer, Chestnut Grove Farm, Thornthwaite, Harrogate, HG3 2QS. Tel. (01423) 780905.
THE SCOUT TROOP
Shortly after the Cub Park started, the Scout Troop was formed, holding its first meeting in May 1979. This section is aimed at boys aged between eleven and sixteen years of age. Boys do not have to have been in either the Colony or the Pack to join, although the background knowledge that they gain from these sections can be very useful in their Scouting career. Activities include such things as camping, hiking, pioneering, cooking on stoves, survival training etc - to name but a few! The Troop has even had the opportunity to try gliding, which was organised by County Headquarters.
Meetings are held on a Monday evening in Christ Church Darley Hall from 8.00pm to 9.30pm.

SCOUT LEADERS
In common with just about every other Scout Group in the Movement, we are always short of Adult Leaders in all our sections. Scouting is a very interesting, rewarding and pleasantly time consuming occupation. We should also, perhaps, point out that it is entirely voluntary! However, the fun and camaraderie more than makes up for the lack of payment. It is great to belong to such a dedicated team. So, even if you don't have any boys who would like to join Scouts, perhaps you could help us as a Leader, Instructor or Lay Member. It doesn't matter if you have had any contact with the Scout Movement before - there is a very modern, comprehensive training programme available, should you wish to pursue this course. Alternatively, any help you can offer will be greatfully received, no matter how much or how little you can spare.
So why not give it some serious consideration - who knows, you might even enjoy it!
If you feel you can help any of the Sections, please contact the Leader in charge of that group. They would love to hear from you!!!
