3rd August 2004 - Yorkshire Day
People across the region have been celebrating Yorkshire Day.
Events included the reading of the traditional "Declaration of Integrity" in towns and cities throughout Yorkshire between 11am and midday. Yorkshire Day was set up in 1975 to restore pride in a county undermined by the loss of its traditional industries.
It falls on 1 August to mark the date in 1759 when soldiers at the Battle of Minden, Germany, used white roses from nearby fields as a tribute to the dead.
To mark the day several thousand people attended Rother Valley Country Park in Rotherham to watch a re-enactment of the storming of Rotherham in 1643, when the town was attacked by Royalists.
