31st July 2004 - Birstwith Hog Roast... a chance to win more food!

At the Hog Roast, Birstwith Community car stickers are being freely distributed, along with a raffle ticket, and one lucky winner will be drawn late in the evening winning a £30 meal voucher for Graveleys Fish & Chip Restaurant in Harrogate.  We are hopeful that people put the stickers in their cars, promoting both the Birstwith Community Web Site and also the Birstwith Horticultural Society.  Whoever can send a picture of their car, showing the sticker, furthest away from Birstwith by the end of August will win what we hope will be a another even more cracking prize.  These pictures will be published on the site during the first week in September along with details of the winner and their lucky prize (we're still working on this).  Any offers are gratefully received.
Please do not send stickers oversees to be inserted in vehicles as this spoils what is meant to be a bit of fun.

Good luck everyone and enjoy the Show.

7th July 2004 - Birstwith Primary - Joseph Dress Rehearsal

It was the eve of the opening night, nerves were jangling and the concert hall was packed to the rafters with proud parents, grand parents and stressed teachers, the critical press were also present looking for the cracks in what hitherto has been a very successful production team

The pundits were left disappointed as the pupils produced another perfectly polished performance, this time of  "Joseph and His Coat of Many Colours."

What the papers said .................

Guardian ...............
"Joseph was a dream and the lead sang like an angel - it will run for ever!"

Telegraph ........
"From the sprightly children playing colours to the part of Joseph everyone looked
divine, this will take Broadway by storm!

Nidderdale Herald ...........
"Chuft as punch again, well done Birstwith Primary"

This weeks performances are a sell out and you heard it here first at Birstwith Community!

30th June 2004 - Serious Accident near Birstwith

A car travelling in the direction of Darley in which a mother and 3 children were driving was involved in an accident with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction on the Darley Road today at about 15.30.

The car over turned but thank God everyone inside though shaken were in good shape.

The Emergency Services, including the Air Ambulance, arrived quickly to attend to matters.

Darley Road is in places very dangerous, traffic travelling at inappropriate speeds makes the situation far worse. Whilst at the scene a driver of a 4 x 4 vehicle again travelling at an inappropriate speed skidded narrowly missing the police vehicle which had arrived at the scene.

How do we make our Roads safer, How do we make Drivers more aware - Debate?

The sessions are operated by FA Qualified coaches who have undergone as a part of that qualification both Child Protection and First Aid Courses, in addition all coaches have been screened by the CRB.

The school has also formed links with the community by it's association with Hampthswiate & Birstwith Junior Football Club which runs sessions every Saturday morning at Hampsthwaite playing field.

16th June 2004 - Congratulations to Elwyn

On Thursday 10 th June, Elwyn Hinchcliffe was elected to represent the people of “ Lower Nidderdale ” in the Council Elections. Elwyn would like to share the following with you all. “Thank you to all the residents of Birstwith who helped me to achieve success in the election of 10 th June. As you know, I tried last year and only lost by a few votes. This year was different. I actually won by 50 votes which I feel represents a significant margin. I have already started working on your behalf and it looks as if my diary is going to be heavily booked for the next four years! However, I shall always be able to make time to discuss any matters of concern with you, however trivial you may think they are. I campaigned in an open and honest manner and that is the way I intend to carry out my duties at all times. I am very approachable and can be contacted directly by phone on (01423) 771019 or by email at elanne@prospecthouse100.freeserve.co.uk. I have begun my new venture at the same time as your Local Birstwith Community Site has been launched. I would like to wish every success to the site and will be able to keep you all updated with my activities by using the site myself. Remember – I am at the end of the phone
